Furthermore, previously we generally discussed similarities and differences; now we will discuss them one by one. Although the three outer [traditions] and the six teachers all alike manifest all-knowledge, some have the all-knowledge of the view of existence, and some have the all-knowledge of the view of non-existence. Such various forms of all-knowledge grasp different points; therefore, views and knowledge differ. Each claims itself to be right and all others to be wrong. The Lotus Sūtra says: 'The jackal dies first.' This explains that when the sharp proclivities arise, the blunt proclivities submerge; hence it says 'dies first.' It also says: 'Many great ferocious beasts race to devour it.' This means that the single view grasped can devour all other views. A treatise on strength says: 'All teachers have the ultimate path; the Deer-Head is foremost.' One should know that the kinds of all-knowledge are each different. This extends to the all-knowledge of the four gates of the Tripiṭaka and the all-knowledge of the four gates of the Mahāyāna: each grasping what it views, mutually swallowing one another; their differences can be understood through contemplation.
