Converting others has four modes: first, committing evil oneself and encouraging others to practice good; second, praising and practicing good oneself and encouraging others to commit evil; third, both oneself and others committing evil; fourth, both oneself and others practicing good. As for committing evil oneself and encouraging good: saying, 'I can penetrate the principle, so evil does not obstruct me; your practice is shallow, so you must first train in good.' The way of conversion should first guide them with good. As for being good oneself and encouraging evil: saying, 'I am the converting master, blending light requires good; you are engaged in personal practice, so you should rightly commit evil.' As for both oneself and others committing evil: because both practice the ultimate way. As for both oneself and others practicing good: because both practice the expedient way. Although these four differ, all take evil as their root and sink down according to karma; what way could one follow here?
