Second, regarding the differences in the dharmas relied upon: all the various views each rely on their own dharmas. The three external tīrthikas are contaminated persons who generate contaminated dharmas, clinging to dharmas of attachment with contaminated minds. Clinging dharmas and clinging minds are in their substance contentious; not only do they grab heads and pull hair in their causal stage, but having generated the various views, they claim they are nirvāṇa. Clinging creates fierce views, poisons increase and battles rage. The dharmas relied upon are not true, and the views generated are also spurious. Although these are perverse dharmas, if one secretly grasps their import, one enters correct characteristics by means of perverse characteristics. Just as when blossoms fly and leaves stir, relying on minor conditions one can still realize a pratyekabuddha, how much more so for the old worldly dharmas? However, although a pratyekabuddha is correct, blossoms and leaves are ultimately not correct teaching. External tīrthikas secretly awaken, yet their dharmas only lead to various views, not to the correct Dharma. This is all because a clinging mind clings to dharmas of attachment, fighting in both cause and effect; we definitively determine that these are perverse dharmas generating perverse views.
