The four gates of the distinctive and perfect [teachings]—whether skillful or clumsy, sharp or dull—all lead to ultimate nirvāṇa. In the cause there is no dwelling or attachment, and in the fruit there is no disputation. If one fixates on the gates and gives rise to views, defilements will arise, equal to those of Ulūka and others. Observing from this perspective, it is like a clear-sighted person standing by the Jing and Wei rivers: how could he be confused by names and fail to recognize the clear and the turbid?
