Furthermore, if one did not previously recognize the faults of views, one would feel fear toward views and hastily and urgently cut them off. Now that one recognizes their wrong characteristics, take care not to cut them off abruptly; simply allow them to reach fulfillment so that they serve as a power to aid the path, which will surely bring immense benefit. It is like having worms in the belly: one should nurture the tapeworms, and afterward purge them with a bead-pill. Why is this? The foolish people of the world are as stubborn as oxen and horses; in vain does the thunder of the Dharma voice boom and fine brocades spread out, for it brings no benefit to what they hear and see. Clinging deeply to the five desires is like suffering from worms; if views arise, these views devour the dull proclivities, which is compared to the tapeworms. The wisdom of views is adjacent to correct contemplation, and upon hearing the Dharma one easily awakens, like taking that medicinal soup with the bead. For this reason, one must nurture views to polish the mind, letting them serve as the vanguard that guides the way.
