次、更歷六塵中競持謹潔，如擎油鉢，一渧不傾。又於六作中威儀肅肅，進退有序，但名持戒。持戒果報升出受樂，非是三昧，不名波羅蜜。若得觀慧，於十二事尸羅自成。

Next, further passing through the six dusts (sense objects), striving to maintain scrupulous purity like carrying a bowl of oil without spilling a single drop; and moreover, possessing dignified comportment in the six activities, advancing and retreating in proper order—this is merely called holding precepts. The fruit and retribution of holding precepts is ascent and receiving pleasure; it is not samādhi, and it is not called a pāramitā. If one attains the wisdom of contemplation, śīla is naturally fulfilled in the twelve items.
