3.149

凡夫有四性，自行為失；無四悉檀，化他為失。二乘破四性入第一義，自行為得；不度眾生，化他為失。菩薩具足，是故兩得。

Ordinary persons possess the four natures, which is a loss in self-cultivation; they lack the four siddhāntas, which is a loss in converting others. The two vehicles break the four natures and enter the primary truth, which is an attainment in self-cultivation; they do not deliver sentient beings, which is a loss in converting others. Bodhisattvas are complete in both; therefore they have both attainments.
