If practitioners of the two vehicles through analysis or embodiment, bodhisattvas of the shared teaching, and the like, have first completely severed the delusions within the realm but have never practiced the provisional and the middle, when they are born beyond the realm, the delusions beyond the realm have not been subdued at all, and their faculties are dull. When they practice contemplation there, they must cultivate through kalpas in sequence, learning buddhadharmas numerous as the sands of the Ganges, first destroying [delusions numerous as] dust and sand. Although dust and sand do not moisten rebirth, they can obstruct the path of conversion; therefore they must be severed first. Severing this delusion is merely an expedient for tuning the mind, subduing the delusions beyond the realm; advancing to sever the three paths, both associated and solitary, branches and root are all eliminated. Hence we know that the contemplation of the provisional directly subsumes dust and sand, and also subsumes avidyā.
