If it is the two persons of the distinctive and perfect [teachings], whose shared delusions were exhausted first and whose distinctive delusions have been subdued, upon being born in that realm their spiritual faculties are keen; they only practice the contemplation of the middle way, remedying those three paths. From the first ground up to the later grounds, in every ground there are the three paths. Ground by ground, avidyā is extinguished part by part, karma is extinguished, and suffering is extinguished. When that which is associated is eliminated ground by ground, that which is isolated is eliminated as well. Although in ground after ground there is wisdom, wisdom is mixed with avidyā; because it is mixed, it may also be termed the hindrance of wisdom, because it hinders higher-level wisdom. Only in the mind of the Buddha is there no avidyā, and so the path of afflictions is exhausted; because the path of afflictions is exhausted, karma is exhausted; because karma is exhausted, suffering is exhausted. The ultimate culmination of the three paths resides solely in the Tathāgata. Therefore, the contemplation of the middle way encompasses delusions beyond the realms.
