3.174

若圓信、解、行，即事而真；從觀行入相似，進破無明，開、示、悟、入佛之知見；凡四十二位，同乘寶乘，直至道場。《涅槃》說十五日，月光用轉顯，譬其智德；十六日，月光用漸減，譬其斷德。亦如十四般若，是因位；十五如妙覺，是果位。皆用中觀攝。乃至四門亦如是。

If one possesses perfect faith, understanding, and practice, identifying phenomena with the true; and advances from the stage of practice into that of resemblance, further shattering avidyā to open, display, awaken to, and enter the Buddha's knowledge and vision; there are altogether forty-two stages, all riding the jewel carriage directly to the bodhimaṇḍa. The *Nirvāṇa [Sūtra]* speaks of the fifteenth day, when the light and function of the moon become increasingly manifest, illustrating the virtue of wisdom, and the sixteenth day, when the light and function of the moon gradually diminish, illustrating the virtue of severance. It is also like the fourteenth prajñā being the causal stage, and the fifteenth being like wonderful awakening, the stage of fruition. All are encompassed by the contemplation of the middle way, and likewise up to the four gates.
