3.201

前兩觀，因中有教、行、證、人；果上但有其教，無行、證、人。何以故？因中之人，灰身入寂，沈空盡滅，不得成於果頭之佛；直是方便之說，故有其教，無行、證、人。

In the preceding two contemplations, on the causal stage there are teaching, practice, realization, and persons; on the resultant stage there is only their teaching, and there are no practice, realization, or persons. Why is this? Because the persons on the causal stage reduce the body to ashes and enter quiescence, sinking into emptiness and becoming utterly extinguished, unable to achieve the Buddha at the summit of the result; they are merely provisional expositions, so there is their teaching, but no practice, realization, or persons.
