If one explains the non-sequential eye and knowledge of calming and contemplation, then as explained before, calming is contemplation and contemplation is calming; there is neither duality nor distinction. The immediate cause for attaining the essence is also like this: the eye is knowledge, and knowledge is the eye. On account of the eye one speaks of seeing; on account of knowledge one speaks of knowing. Knowing is seeing, and seeing is knowing. The Buddha eye is complete with the five eyes, and the Buddha knowledge is complete with the three knowledges. As with the king of samādhis, in which all samādhis enter, or the Śūraṅgama samādhi, which subsumes all samādhis, the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra says: 'One who wishes to attain path-knowledge, knowledge of the aspects of the path, all-knowledge, and knowledge of all aspects should study the perfection of wisdom (prajñāpāramitā).'
