○第四、息諸緣務者，緣務妨禪，由來甚矣。蘭若比丘去喧就靜，云何營造緣務，壞蘭若行？非所應也。緣務有四：一、生活，二、人事，三、技能，四、學問。

Fourth, regarding ceasing all busy engagements: busy engagements have hindered dhyāna for a very long time. An araṇya monk leaves noise to approach quiet; how could he engage in busy pursuits and destroy the araṇya practice? This is not appropriate. There are four kinds of busy engagements: first, livelihood; second, social affairs; third, crafts and skills; fourth, worldly learning.
