4.150

瞋恚蓋者，追想是人惱我、惱我親、稱歎我怨；三世九惱，怨對結恨。心熱氣麁，忿怒相續；百計伺候，欲相中害，危彼安身。恣其毒忿，暢情為快。如此瞋火燒諸功德，禪定支林豈得生長？此即瞋恚蓋相也。

As for the hindrance of ill will: one recalls that this person harmed me, harmed my kin, or praised my enemy; the nine kinds of vexation across the three times, knotting resentment toward adversaries. The heart burns hot, the breath turns coarse, and anger persists continuously; spying out with a hundred schemes, wishing to strike and harm them and endanger their well-being. One indulges poisonous resentment, venting one's feelings for gratification. Such a fire of ill will burns up the roots of merit; how could the branches and forest of meditative concentration grow? This is the characteristic of the hindrance of ill will.
