Furthermore, relying on emptiness, hindrances arise that obstruct the principle of the conventional truth. Why is this? One sinks into emptiness to attain realization, taking emptiness as right. This is like a poor man who is satisfied as soon as he gets a little, no longer desiring anything better. Cherishing and loving this emptiness is the hindrance of greed; detesting and loathing saṃsāra, abandoning it without contemplating it, is the hindrance of hatred; unconditioned empty quiescence, refusing to illuminate the provisional, to the extent of not recognizing the five kinds of salt, is called the hindrance of sleep; beings with empty, distracted minds are not one's sphere, which is called the hindrance of restlessness and regret; and lack of clarity regarding provisional knowledge is called the hindrance of doubt. If these hindrances are not discarded, the knowledge of the aspects of the path (mārgākārajñatā) and the samādhis of conventional truth will never manifest. If these hindrances are removed, the Dharma eye becomes bright and clear.
