Since one repudiates the Buddha's restrictive precepts with malignant emptiness, this breaks the precept of restraint; the view of emptiness agitates the mind, breaking the precept concomitant with concentration; rigidly clinging to one's own view breaks the precept identical with emptiness; defiling others' wholesome minds breaks the precept identical with the provisional; not believing that the mind of views is equal to empty space—which is just the Buddha-Dharma's ultimate purity—breaks the precept identical with the middle. One must know that the perverted mind of emptiness is exceedingly terrifying! If one falls into this view, one will sink and drown forever; one will not even be able to attain [rebirth among] humans and gods or nirvāṇa, much less mahāparinirvāṇa. Therefore the treatise says: 'The Great Sage taught the Dharma of emptiness originally to cure being; if anyone clings to emptiness, the Buddhas cannot convert them.' Furthermore, a sūtra says: 'If one gives rise to a doubtful mind toward phenomena, it can crush defilements like Mount Sumeru; but if one resolutely forms a view, one cannot be converted.' The Wuxing jing says: 'Greed and desire are themselves the path.' Perversely grasping these words to verify [one's own] lack of obstruction, why does one not quote the Wuxing [jing]: 'One who craves and clings to the unhindered Dharma, that person is far removed from the Buddha; if anyone realizes emptiness, they will never break the precepts (and so forth)'? This is called 'the rākṣasa of the mind of views destroying the restrictive precepts.' Such is the general meaning (and so forth).
