When a practitioner of faith sits upright, reflecting on quiescent cessation, joyful leaping has not yet arisen; after rising, they hear about calming, and experience sweetness and joy. When they sit upright minding the good, the good cannot emerge; after rising, they hear about calming, and their faith, precepts, and vigor redouble. When they sit upright to remedy evil, evil cannot be dispelled; after rising, they hear about calming, and distraction and agitation are broken and extinguished. When they sit upright directly facing the true, the true path does not open; after rising, they hear about calming, and with sudden openness they awaken to quiescence. This is a practitioner of faith, sitting little and hearing much; it does not mean they do not reflect at all.
