As for those of dull faculties, not only do they fail to awaken through hearing and reflection, they further increase numerous faults. Therefore the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā* states: "In future ages, people's faculties will turn duller; they will commit all manner of evil deeds, not knowing on what basis ultimate emptiness is taught. For this reason, extensive methods of contemplation are devised and expounded in the *Mūlamadhyamakakārikā*." It is the same here: for the sake of those of dull faculties, we extensively refute the simple and compound, up to the view beyond verbal expression; universally employing Nāgārjuna's four phrases to refute them so that all is eliminated and purified.
