If mind arises in dependence on the unarisen: does this unarisen exist, or does this unarisen not exist? If there is an arisen to be depended upon, it is still depending on existence; how could it be called depending on nonexistence? Existence and existence depending on one another is self-arising. If this unarisen does not exist, what is there for it to depend on? If it simply depends on this nonexistence of nonexistence to produce mind, all nonexistence of nonexistence should also produce mind. Viewing nonexistence in relation to existence, nonexistence is other-arising. Furthermore, although the unarisen does not exist, it possesses a nature of arising, and in dependence on this nature one knows that there is mind: has this nature already arisen, or has it not yet arisen? If what has already arisen arises, it is already an arising, so how could it be called a nature? If the nature has not yet arisen, how could that which has not yet arisen produce anything?
