5.243

若待生而心生者：生還待生，長應待長；既無此義，何得心生？若待生無生故有心生，如待長短，得有於長。此墮二過。各有，則二生並；各無，全不可得，如前。

If mind arises in dependence on arising: arising would in turn depend on arising, just as long should depend on long; since there is no such principle, how could mind arise? If mind arises because it depends on arising and non-arising, just as by depending on long and short one has long, this falls into two faults. If each exists, two arisings exist side by side; if each does not exist, it is entirely unattainable, as before.
