As for the general refutation, as the Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra states: 'The non-arising of consciousness cannot even be found, how much less the arising of consciousness?' And: 'The arising of consciousness cannot even be found, how much less the non-arising of consciousness?' Both arising and non-arising are unobtainable. The Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra also extensively refutes the view of non-arising. Moreover, the principle of non-arising is not something known by consciousness; how could it be conceptualized by delusion? Abandoning existence to condition nonexistence is like an inchworm, or like a monkey. One should not falsely cling to this view. This is the general refutation.
