斷伏名同，觀智大異。三藏觀思議真，析法觀智伏斷。通教觀思議真，體法觀智伏斷。別教雖知中道，次第觀智伏斷。圓教即中，一心觀智伏斷。不可聞名仍混其義。

The names of severing and subduing are the same, but the contemplative wisdoms are greatly different. The Tripiṭaka contemplates the conceivable true, using the contemplative wisdom of analytical phenomena to subdue and sever. The shared teaching contemplates the conceivable true, using the contemplative wisdom of embodied phenomena to subdue and sever. Although the distinctive teaching knows the middle way, it uses sequential contemplative wisdom to subdue and sever. The perfect teaching is identical to the middle, using the contemplative wisdom of a single mind to subdue and sever. One must not hear the names and nevertheless conflate their meanings.
