The characteristics of disease are limitless, and the bodhisattva knows them all. He knows how many propositions combine to form this view, and knows how many propositions combine to form that view. Discerning depth, shallowness, lightness, and heaviness skillfully without error—this is called knowing origination. Having known origination, he can also know suffering. Thoroughly understanding the origin and branches of the transmigration of suffering and origination, moreover, prior to entering emptiness he comprehensively contemplates views and thoughts, generally knowing the characteristics of disease as an expedient means for emerging into the provisional; later he uses a single portal to sever delusions and enter emptiness. When emerging into the provisional, he discriminates views and thoughts, illuminating them with ease; by practicing calming and contemplation even slightly, his Dharma-eye becomes bright.
