6.209

如是觀者，則是眾生開佛知見。言「眾生」者，貪恚癡心皆計有我；我即眾生，我逐心起，心起三毒即名「眾生」。此心起時，即空、即假、即中，隨心起念止觀具足。觀名「佛知」，止名「佛見」；於念念中止觀現前，即是眾生開佛知見。

Contemplating in this way is precisely sentient beings opening the Buddha's knowledge and vision. As for 'sentient beings', the mind of greed, hatred, and delusion always posits a self; the self is precisely the sentient being, and the self arises following the mind. When the mind gives rise to the three poisons, it is named 'sentient being'. When this mind arises, it is identical to emptiness, identical to the provisional, and identical to the middle; following the thought arisen in the mind, calming and contemplation are fully present. Contemplation is named 'the Buddha's knowledge', and calming is named 'the Buddha's vision'; when calming and contemplation appear manifest in thought-moment after thought-moment, this is precisely sentient beings opening the Buddha's knowledge and vision.
