6.61

龍樹難云：「薄即是斷，如斯陀含侵六品思名為薄地。汝既不斷，那得稱薄？」故知但是伏道論薄耳。三十四心方乃稱斷。雖能如此，猶是初教方便之說。

Nāgārjuna refutes this, saying: "Attenuation is just cessation; as when a sakṛdāgāmin impinges upon the six grades of thought [delusion], it is called the stage of attenuation. Since you have not severed them, how can you call it attenuation?" Thus we know that attenuation is discussed only in terms of the path of subduing. Only with thirty-four minds is it termed cessation. Although capable of this, it is still the expedient explanation of the initial teaching.
