Now, explaining concrete giving, it assists in breaking the obscuration of stinginess and advances the accomplishment of the contemplation of principle; how could they be separated? If a person, although understanding the contemplation of the perfect renunciation of true reality, touches their chest to examine their conduct and finds that in encountering affairs they are stingy and grasping, guarding wealth and refusing to part with a single hair, shirking toil and weighing muscle and measuring strength, unable to humble themselves to benefit others, coveting and cherishing life so that how could they strive to die and yield life?—in every affair they are tight-fisted and firmly unmoved, having mere understanding without practice. How could such heavy obscurations be broken? How could the three gates of liberation be opened? Now, in the bodhimaṇḍa, one repents with deep earnestness, gives rise to a resolute mind, and raises great vows to renounce body, life, and wealth with absolute lack of cherish. One personally practices this giving, teaches it to others, praises the Dharma of giving, and rejoices in those who give. Having made this vow, one calls upon the Buddhas of the ten directions to serve as witnesses and saviors.
