If one conditions female beauty, indulging and clinging to it within the mind, deluded, attached, and unable to leave it, one should use the contemplation of impurity as the remedy. One contemplates the initial death-state of the beloved person: their speech had just taken place, and in an instant, where have they gone? The body turns cold, the color changes, worms and pus ooze out, and it is filled with impure, foul, and repulsive things, cast away in the charnel ground like rotten wood; what can now be seen of that which was cherished in the past? It is a repulsive object that causes me worry and toil. Once recognizing the fault of desire, the lustful mind immediately ceases. The remaining eight perceptions also remedy lust. The Da zhidu lun says: 'For those with much lust, have them contemplate the nine perceptions; for those not free regarding objects, have them contemplate the liberations (aṣṭa-vimokṣa); for those whose objects are not vast and universal, have them contemplate the stations of mastery (abhibhvāyatana); for those unable to transform, have them contemplate the ten totalities (kṛtsnāyatana); if there is fear, have them cultivate the eight recollections.' All take impurity as their initial door, all extinguishing the fire of lust, opening the door of liberation, according with the four kinds of eight dhyānas, assisting as oil to increase brilliance, and so forth.
