7.87

若攀緣邪倒，當用因緣觀治之。《毘曇》以界方便破我，今因緣破我。三世破斷常，二世破我，一念破性。此定若成，即與理觀相應，助開涅槃門。

If one clings to perverse errors, one should use the contemplation of causes and conditions as the remedy. The Abhidharma uses the skillful means of the elements (dhātu) to refute the self; here causes and conditions refute the self. Contemplating the three times refutes annihilation and permanence; the two times refutes the self; a single thought-moment refutes intrinsic nature. If this dhyāna is accomplished, it immediately accords with noumenal contemplation and assists in opening the door of nirvāṇa.
