Once life comes to an end, the borrowed [elements] return to their origins: wind departs and fire cools, earth disintegrates and water flows away. Eaten by worms and pecked by birds, head and hands separated, overflowing outwards; for three to five leagues downwind its stench is smelled, the foul and rank odor assailing people's breath; its ghastly, bruised discoloration offends people's eyes, worse than a dead dog. This is called 'ultimate impurity.'
