若坐禪中但見諸相，此名「報果相現」。由昔因故，亦得言「報因」。又能起因牽於後報，互受名耳，今但判為報果相也。若於坐中不見諸相，欝爾起心，是發「習因」。能牽來果故，亦得名「習果」。酬昔因故，互受其名，今但判為習因也。

If during seated meditation one only sees various signs, this is called 'the manifestation of signs of retribution effects.' Because of past causes, it can also be called 'retribution causes.' Moreover, because they can initiate causes that drag forward future retributions, the designations may apply interchangeably; here, however, it is determined solely as the sign of retribution effects. If in sitting meditation one does not see various signs, but a mind arises with swelling intensity, this is the activation of a 'habituated cause.' Because it can drag forward future effects, it may also be named a 'habituated effect.' Because it repays past causes, the designations may apply interchangeably; here, however, it is determined solely as a habituated cause.
