As for the transferred cure: for example, impurity is the direct cure for greed and desire, yet it may not be suitable; if one ought to attain release through the contemplation of purity, one transfers to cultivating the mind of loving-kindness, contemplating peaceful happiness through pure phenomena—how could one add defilement and degradation? This is called the 'transferred cure'. If an angry person is taught impurity, a deluded person is taught reflection on the finite and infinite, or an agitated and distracted person is taught to use wisdom to discriminate: these are cases where the illness is not transferred but the cure is transferred; all are called 'transferred cures'. If both medicine and illness are transferred, it is also called a 'transferred cure', and is also a 'direct cure'.
