8.3

第二、觀煩惱境者：上陰界入不悟，則非其宜，而觀察不已，擊動煩惱，貪瞋發作；是時應捨陰入觀於煩惱。前呵五欲，知其過罪；棄蓋是捨平常；陰入觀於果報，於中求解。今觀發作隆盛，起重貪瞋。如鐵不與火合，但黑；若與火合，赫然。又報法尋常，無時不有，呵棄為易；若欻起煩惱，控制則難。

Second, contemplating the realm of afflictions: if one does not awaken to the aforementioned aggregates, realms, and bases, then it was not appropriate; yet contemplating ceaselessly provokes afflictions, so that greed and anger erupt. At this time, one should set aside the aggregates and bases to contemplate afflictions. Previously, one rebuked the five desires, knowing their faults and transgressions; abandoning the hindrances was setting aside ordinary matters; regarding the aggregates and bases, one contemplated retributive fruition, seeking liberation therein. Now one contemplates the surging outbreak, giving rise to heavy greed and anger. It is like iron: when not joined with fire, it is merely black; but when joined with fire, it is blazing. Furthermore, the dharmas of retribution are ordinary, present at all times, and easy to rebuke and abandon; but when afflictions suddenly arise, they are difficult to control.
