Answer: The Avataṃsaka Sūtra says: 'Within the one is the immeasurable; within the immeasurable is the one.' The Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra says: 'All phenomena converge into ignorance, and this convergence cannot be exceeded; up to all phenomena converging into old age and death.' Now in speaking of a single mind being complete with the twelve links of dependent origination, what fault could there be? Furthermore, speaking of a single thought-moment is not like worldly people clinging to a fixed characteristic of unity or diversity in a single thought-moment; it is discussing oneness in terms of neither-one-nor-different. For example, when mental phenomena submerge and envelop the mind, within a single thought-moment one dreams of immeasurable lifetimes, as described in the Lotus Sūtra (and so forth).
