Furthermore, if the supernormal powers are refined and subtle, they are the three clarities, though they are not the uncontaminated clarity. For example, when the blind and deaf suddenly have their eyes and ears opened, they experience great joy; how much more so when the five sense faculties have been internally blind for immeasurable kalpas, and now having broken through the five cataracts, cleanly manifest the five supernormal powers? Within each and every supernormal power there are five limbs: when the obstruction of the eye is broken and one is aware that the eye faculty confronts forms, this is the limb of awareness; distinguishing the immeasurable kinds of marks of forms and so on is the limb of observation; when this power opens, there is great rejoicing, which is the limb of joy; the inner mind experiencing pleasure is the limb of pleasure; being without objects or thoughts, calm and profound, is the limb of single-mindedness. The remaining four supernormal powers are also like this. With regard to the essence of the dhyānas, either the inner mind gains understanding or the external marks are not clear, hence there is the sense of being concealed. Supernormal powers are the functioning of concentration; the functioning must be clear, and therefore they are all unconcealed.
