The Mahāsaṃnipāta differentiates the names of these five factors, stating: "Such-like mental investigation, great investigation, reflection, great reflection, and contemplating the nature of the mind—this is called the 'investigation factor' (vitakka). Contemplating mental action, great action, and pervasive action—this is the 'reflection factor' (vicāra). Knowing in accordance with reality, great knowing, and from mental stirring to mental joy—this is the 'joy factor' (prīti). Bodily ease, mental ease, and experiencing pleasant contact—this is the 'ease factor' (praśrabdhi/sukha). Mental abiding, great abiding, and unperturbedness regarding conditions—this is called the 'concentration factor' (samādhi)."
