Furthermore, that a bodhisattva cultivating the stations of mastery completes all practices [is as follows]: if one does not comprehend the dependent and proper [retributions], greed and stinginess may arise. If this contemplation becomes clear, one would even wish to abandon one's body, so how could one begrudge one's own possessions and covet another's wealth? This is called 'giving' (dāna). Attaining such contemplation, one will not break the precepts for the sake of wealth or sex, nor harm the owner of that wealth to seize goods for oneself, nor resort to a hundred kinds of deceit to seek personal preservation—there is definitely no such reason; this is called 'morality' (śīla). When this contemplation is attained, if others provoke, distress, or rob one, one will never give rise to anger or quarrel over excrement and filth; this is called 'patience' (kṣānti). When this contemplation is fulfilled, one does not, in the midst of an impure corpse and an impure land, regress from the meditative mind; this is called 'vigor' (vīrya). This contemplation can fulfill contemplation, refining, suffusing, and cultivation, spiritual powers and transformations, aspirational knowledge, the peak, and so forth; this is called 'meditation' (dhyāna). When this contemplation is attained, all phenomena, both subject and object, are ungraspable, unarising and unceasing, ultimately pure; this is called 'wisdom' (prajñā).
