Skillful-salvation calming has three kinds: first, calming of realizing the true; second, calming of conforming to conditions through expedients; third, calming of ceasing discrimination of the two extremes. First, the calming of realizing the true: all dharmas arise from conditions, and cause and conditions are empty and without master; ceasing the mind and reaching the fundamental source, one is therefore called a śramaṇa. Knowing that the provisional combination of causes and conditions is illusory and devoid of real nature is called 'realizing'. When discursive clinging and false thoughts obtain emptiness, they cease; emptiness is the true, and so it is called 'calming of realizing the true'.
