Third, dread: knowing that the mind of 'views' creates transgressions, and that this fault is deep and grave. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: 'The Buddhas taught the meaning of emptiness in order to abandon all views; if one further holds a view of emptiness, such a person cannot be transformed by the Buddhas.' Now, due to views, I have generated great transgressions. When the kalpa ends here, I will be born in a hell in another world; when the kalpa forms here, I will return to this place. In this way it turns round and round, immeasurably and boundlessly. If one speaks of the body received as retribution, one would vomit hot blood and die! Hence one knows that transgressions of views are extremely heavy; since they are not free of outflows, one does not escape birth and death. With afflictions moistening karma, what doubt is there that one will fall? Once this single life is lost, there will never be a day of emergence. For this reason one generates great dread, overturning and shattering the mindset of not fearing the bad destinies.
