Now we say: the sūtra merely borrows the distinctive meaning to reveal the shared. The distinctive meaning of views is long, discussing the third and fourth grounds; the shared meaning of views is short, without exiting and entering contemplation. Thus, although the names may be borrowed from the distinctive, the meaning must accord with the shared. If explained in terms of not entering or exiting contemplation: if one speaks of the third ground, it is based on the beginning of severing views; if one speaks of the fourth ground, it is based on the completion of severing views; both are without exiting contemplation. This is analogous to the sixteenth mind being called either the path of seeing or the path of cultivation.
