As the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: “Cultivating the eightfold noble path, one attains the initial wholesome defiled five aggregates.” The wholesome defiled five aggregates are none other than the state of warmth; even prior to the state of warmth, one can still cultivate the eightfold noble path. How does one cultivate them? Initially receiving the Dharma from a master and binding the mind in mindfulness is called smṛtyupasthāna. Diligently practicing in order to seek this Dharma is called right effort. Cultivating with a single mind is called the bases of psychic power. The arising of the five wholesome roots is called the faculties. The increase and growth of the faculties is called the powers. Discriminating the functions of the path is called the seven limbs of awakening. Walking securely within the path is called the eightfold noble path. If one can cultivate in this manner, one attains the wholesome defiled five aggregates. You should know that the factors of the path are all defiled.
