From "Contemplating this one mind..." downward, it clarifies the arising of understanding based on the object. As for "the one mind can communicate to the ineffable mind and ineffable dharmas," as the earlier text says, "serving as the root of delusion and understanding"; now, here it provisionally takes the differentiation of emerging from emptiness into provisionality as mind-dharmas, and reaching through to dharma-nature as non-mind-dharmas. From "The nine bonds..." downward, it excludes what is incorrect. Within afflictions there is the tathāgatagarbha, hence it says "amidst sitting." Ordinary persons are born blind; they are constantly together with the garbha but do not know or see it, and because they do not see it, they transmigrate through birth and death. On the contrary, they are harmed by the garbha, hence it says "injured by it." The two vehicles have one-eyed vision and suffer from the fever of biased emptiness, regarding the garbha as a "demon." The four items such as demons are metaphors for the afflictions of the four dwellings; not knowing that the substance of the four dwellings is precious treasure, they abandon it, turn their backs, and run away in solitary hardship. As for "over fifty years," it is simply because they turn their backs on the jewel that afflictions gain advantage, and having regressed from the Great [Vehicle], they transmigrate through the five destinies. The asuras reside between ghosts and animals, hence they are called the "remainder." As for "Although bondage and liberation [differ]..." and so forth, although the ordinary person and the two vehicles differ in ascending and descending, they are equal in losing the garbha. From "Arousing great compassion..." downward, the great vows are properly aroused. From "This is..." downward, what is correct is revealed.
