二者、若人受得戒已，雖不犯重，於諸輕戒，多所毀損。為修定故，即能如法懺悔，亦名持戒清淨，能生定慧。如衣曾有垢膩，若能浣淨，染亦可著。

Second, if after receiving the precepts a person does not commit major offenses, yet commits many infractions of minor precepts, but for the sake of cultivating concentration is able to repent according to the Dharma, this is also called observing the precepts purely, and is able to give rise to concentration and wisdom. It is like cloth that was once soiled and greasy: if it can be washed clean, dye can still take.
