Second is the marks of afflictions arising from the five internal organs. Afflictions arising from the heart: bodily chills and heat, headache, dry mouth, and so on, because the heart governs the mouth. Afflictions arising from the lungs: bodily distension and fullness, aching and pain in the four limbs, chest tightness, nasal congestion, and so on, because the lungs govern the nose. Afflictions arising from the liver: mostly lacking a joyful mind, sorrowful and displeased, grieving and angry, headache, dim eyes, and dizziness, because the liver governs the eyes. Afflictions arising from the spleen: wandering wind over the body and face, whole-body itching and pain, loss of taste in eating and drinking, and so on, because the spleen governs the tongue. Afflictions arising from the kidneys: throat choking and obstruction, abdominal distension, deafness, and so on, because the kidneys govern the ears. The illnesses arising from the five internal organs are numerous and each has its marks, which can be known by examining them during sitting and in dreams.
