第五、近善知識。善知識有三：一、外護善知識，經營供養，善能將護行人，不相惱亂。二者、同行善知識，共修一道，互相勸發，不相擾亂。三者、教授善知識，以內外方便禪定法門，示教利喜。

Fifth, drawing close to good spiritual friends. There are three kinds of good spiritual friends: First, good spiritual friends who provide external protection, managing provisions and offerings, skillfully supporting and protecting the practitioner without troubling or disturbing them. Second, good spiritual friends who are fellow practitioners, cultivating the single Path together, encouraging and inspiring one another without harassing or disrupting each other. Third, good spiritual friends who instruct, using inner and outer expedient means and the dharma gates of dhyāna-concentration to demonstrate, teach, benefit, and gladden.
