第五、近善知識，有三種：一、外護善知識，經營供養，善能將護行人，不相惱亂；二者、同行善知識，共修一道，互相勸發，不相擾亂；三者、教授善知識，以內外方便禪定法門示教利喜。

Fifth, drawing close to good spiritual friends. There are three kinds: First, external-protecting good spiritual friends, who manage offerings and are skilled at caring for the practitioner without disturbing them. Second, fellow-practitioner good spiritual friends, who cultivate the one Path together and encourage each other without confusing them. Third, instructing good spiritual friends, who instruct, encourage, and gladden through the external and internal expedient means and the Dharma gates of dhyāna-concentration.
