When the practitioner's contemplating mind is already tamed, at that time they do not extinguish the internal skeleton, but further, within concentration, broadly contemplate external forms—namely, carefully contemplating one corpse up to ten, a hundred, a thousand, or ten thousand; one land up to ten, a hundred, a thousand, or ten thousand lands; one Jambudvīpa up to one four-continent world, and so on—seeing that all are corpses. When contemplating one swelling corpse, they see all [bodies] as swollen, and likewise up to rotting, blood-stained, purulent, bruised, and flayed. Once the practitioner has broadly seen the impurity of corpses and their mind is intensely revulsed, next they should carefully contemplate one corpse stripped of skin and flesh, seeing only the white bones, and in this manner proceed until all corpses are stripped of skin and flesh, seeing white bones filling the world everywhere. This contemplation is explained broadly in the Dhyāna-sūtra, and should be explained in full therein.
