10.57

第二勝處，深思此意，義理觀行，悉可依用也。次明第三、第四勝處，觀行方法不異於前，但以內無色相為異。滅內色方法，前二背捨初門說。今行者為欲界煩惱歎破故，於第二禪中重修此二勝處，對治除滅下地結使，令無遺餘，亦以重轉變觀道，令利熟增明，牢固不失，工力轉勝也。

For the second station of mastery, if one ponders this meaning deeply, both the principle and the contemplative practice may all be relied upon and used. Next, elucidating the third and fourth stations of mastery: the methods of contemplative practice do not differ from the previous ones, differing only in having no notions of internal forms. The method of extinguishing internal forms was explained at the beginning of the first two liberations. Now, because the practitioner wishes to thoroughly break the defilements of the desire realm, they cultivate these two stations of mastery again in the second dhyāna, counteracting and eradicating the fetters of the lower stage so that none remain, and also re-transforming the path of contemplation so that it becomes sharp, mature, radiant, firm, and unfailing, with its efficacy becoming ever superior.
