Next, explaining the four stations of mastery of blue, yellow, red, and white: the practitioner does not accept the bliss of bodily realization in the third dhyāna; when entering the fourth dhyāna, mindfulness and wisdom are pure, and the four colors become all the more radiant, like the brilliance of exquisite gems, surpassing the previous colors; hence they are called stations of mastery. Furthermore, the practitioner uses unshakeable wisdom in the fourth dhyāna to refine these four colors, making the few many, and the many few, transforming them freely, seeing them when wishing to see, and extinguishing them when wishing to extinguish; hence they are called stations of mastery. Furthermore, when the practitioner sees these superior forms in samādhi, if their fetters and outflows are not yet severed, affection for the Dharma may sometimes arise in the mind; to sever affection for the Dharma, they carefully contemplate these forms and know they arise from the mind—just as an illusionist contemplates illusory forms, knowing they arise from the mind, and therefore does not generate attachment—at that time the liberations change their name to stations of mastery.
