First, cultivating the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye: With a profound mind of pity for all, the practitioner makes a vow wishing to see the signs of sentient beings in the six destinies dying here and being born there. At that time, they should abide in the form realm's liberations, stations of mastery, totality spheres, and the four bases of psychokinesis, cultivating with correct mindfulness. When the four conditions are complete, the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye arises. What are the four? (1) Light constantly shines, day and night without difference. (2) Deeply contemplating the barriers of the world as being entirely like empty space, without any sign of concealment. (3) Single-mindedly taking first an easily visible object, conditioning upon it with the mind, constantly and diligently striving, skillfully cultivating, wishing to see that object ahead. (4) Within dhyāna absorption, generating the completion of a pure visual faculty made of the four great elements. This is called the combination of the four complete conditions, through which pure consciousness arises, immediately seeing the signs of suffering and joy of sentient beings in the ten directions and six destinies dying here and being born there; whether bright or dark, near or far, inside or outside barriers, coarse or subtle forms, they see through them without obstruction, completely clear and distinct. This is called the supernormal knowledge of the divine eye.
