3.62

復次，發習、報兩因，行人根性不同，自有行人但發報因相，不發習因善心；自有行人但發習因善心，而不發報因之相；自有行人具發習、報兩因；自有行人二俱不發。如是等事，因緣難解，豈可謬釋？

Furthermore, in the arising of the two causes—habitual and retributive—the practitioners' root-dispositions differ. Some practitioners only give rise to the signs of retributive causes, without giving rise to the wholesome mind of habitual causes; some practitioners only give rise to the wholesome mind of habitual causes, without giving rise to the signs of retributive causes; some practitioners give rise to both habitual and retributive causes; some practitioners give rise to neither. Such matters of causes and conditions are difficult to understand; how could one interpret them mistakenly?
